The Dr. Robert C. Small Jr. and Donald J. Kenney Research and Innovation Fund will support faculty and student collaborative research, creative scholarship or community outreach. Preference will be given to undergraduate research and will be open to the entire student population within the College of Education and Human Development. This fund will promote students to challenge assumptions and look at what is current and what is possible.

As former Dean of the College, Dr. Small inspired students and colleagues and significantly shaped the minds and careers of teachers and professors. He was a dedicated scholar and today thousands of students in public schools, colleges, and universities are the beneficiaries of Dr. Small’s investment in the lifetimes and professional development of teachers and professors. In the words of one of his doctoral students: “We will all miss Bob, but we will all live better lives because Bob taught us how to be better and more caring and more thoughtful people.”

A teacher can have no greater legacy than that his students and their students continuously strive to emulate his tireless quest for understanding and wisdom.

This scholarship will allow for his legacy to continue for years to come.
